Two young girls shared the Rising Star award at Cumbria Cricket’s Grassroots presentation evening.
Maddie Wood (Whitehaven CC and Cumbria U15 Girls) and Olivia Brinsden (Egremont CC and Cumbria U18 Girls) were chosen as joint winners for their performances in 2022.
But it’s now just about performances on the field, it’s those who keep the game ticking over at clubs throughout the county, who were honoured.
From unsung hero – Steve Reynolds (Vickerstown CC) to lifetime achiever – Arthur Brown (Whitehaven) the stalwarts of the local game were award winners.
Bob Simpson, Cumbria’s director of cricket, said: “This was a night of real celebration for the hard-working volunteers involved.
“Looking at all the smiles and feedback there was a really positive vibe, with a mix of young and not so young enjoying themselves. It was also great for our new Board to meet the people that make cricket happen in Cumbria.
“I would like to express immense gratitude to the 100 people, including the winners, the nominees and the sponsors of the awards.”
