Fire crews from across the county are tackling a blaze at an empty mansion in West Cumbria.
Emergency services were called at around 5.50am to the property in Mirehouse, Whitehaven.
Police said they were alerted at around 7.35am today with the report of a house fire at Manor Gardens, off Kirkstone Road.
The fire has now been put out. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Thank you to residents in the area for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident. It has now been extinguished and brought to a close.”
Earlier this afternoon, crews from Carlisle East Fire Station said: “The incident in Whitehaven is now being scaled back, and checked periodically for signs of reigniting. Crews utilised our ALP to access the unstable structure and extinguish the fire.”
People were asked to avoid the area while Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the incident.
Residents in the immediate vicinity were asked to keep doors and windows closed while firefighters tackled the blaze.
