It’s full steam ahead for this year’s Workington Model Railway Exhibition.
COVID-19 put paid to full exhibitions in recent years, but organisers said they were delighted to announce that a full two-day event will be held on November 19 and 20 at Energus, Lillyhall.
The exhibition is the largest in Cumbria and the Borders area and brings together groups, organisations and individuals from all over Cumbria and
northern England who share a passion and enthusiasm for all things model railway.
All except two of the layouts will be new to Workington and several of the layouts have been featured in national model railway magazines.
A special this year will be Fence Houses from Chester-le-Street. The layout is believed to be the largest portable 2mm Finescale layout at 39ft by 9ft and is based on the real location. It is modelled to scale, including an 800ft long viaduct.
Thomas the Tank Engine and his Friends will return, who did not attend last year due to COVID-19.
The event is supported by trade stands and new for this year will be Scalefour Cumberland. The organisers have brought together a group of members of the Scalefour Society, who will demonstrate techniques showing how they model in their chosen scale of 4mm to the foot. There will also be a completed layout
showing how it all works. Questions will be more than welcome from visitors.
Visitors will also be invited to ‘try their hand’ on a couple of exhibits including the Vintage Trix Twin layout, where you can drive a train or two. Age is no barrier. If technology is your interest then there will be computer simulation programmes for you to try.
The exhibition is organised by Solrail, a not-for-profit team of enthusiasts and volunteers.
The exhibition will be open from 10am until 5pm on Saturday November 19 and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday November 20.
