You Float My Boat by Gary Walton

Major artist Gary Walton will be at Keswick’s Treeby & Bolton gallery this weekend.

Walton’s unique quirky style has won him many fans and he has exhibited in New York and is planning to travel to Japan.

Treeby & Bolton, on Lake Road, will welcome him to the gallery on Saturday as it launches his latest collection. People can meet him for a chat and a photo, plus he will also be signing and dedicating work for collectors and painting live.

His latest depictions of fantastical landscapes and nautical scenes feature his trademark elements of dreamy sundown, colourful and welcoming lighthouses, charming trawlers and rowing boats…with just a hint of Steam Punk vibes.

Pieces like The Love Train hark back to a bygone era, quirkily portraying elegantly embellished viaducts transporting steam trains across cliffside cove. You Float My Boat presents softly hued scenes of delightfully old-fashioned airships and hot air balloons floating above rustic cottages perched on craggy rock formations in the sea.

Other picturesque pieces feature azure waters dotted with bobbing boats, harbours lined with higgledy piggledy houses and moonlit waves shimmering in the gloaming.

He won a fine art publishing contract in 2002 and as gone on to work with two of the UK’s best-known fine art publishers.

Walton says of his work: “I wanted to be different from all the other artists so started to develop my own unique personal style. It’s very whimsical, romantic and happy; quirky, two-dimensional with a slight intriguing air of fantasy combined with a twist of reality within.”

Libbie Barton, who co-owns Treeby & Bolton gallery with her husband Dan, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Gary to the gallery for the first time. From the moment his first collection arrived, Gary’s work has been an instant hit and his collector base has grown and grown.

“The event on Saturday will showcase our biggest collection yet including eight newly launched limited editions. We are also delighted to be have an exclusive selection of Gary’s latest original works.

“Gary’s original art is rare and highly sought after and it’s a privilege to be one of the few galleries in the country to have his original pieces available to us.”

He will be in the gallery from 11am to 3pm and refreshments will be served.
