Workington Reds manager Danny Grainger expects a tougher test from Skelmersdale tomorrow than his team had two months ago.
Even then on September 24 it was only 2-1 to the Reds at Borough Park and Grainger knows they have improved.
He said: “It’s virtually a new look squad because I think there are only about three or four involved now who played against us back then.
“They have improved and recently had a good win against Mossley although they lost narrowly at Witton last week.
“I’m expecting a tough test and we will have to be on our game to get the three points, which is what we will be looking for.”
It’s going to be touch and go whether defender Sam Smith makes the squad. The ultra-consistent defender has been out for the last two games after damaging an ankle in the 4-1 defeat at Macclesfield on November 1.
“We are going to leave that until the last minute to see how he’s doing. Sam is getting there but it might just be a little too soon.
“I am looking at freshening things up for the game with maybe a couple of changes from last Saturday,” said Grainger.
Reds beat Widnes 2-1 with goals in the 92nd and 94th minutes from Conor Tinnion and Ruben Jerome.
Grainger has been looking at a trialist from Lancashire for the last fortnight and had intended to play him on Tuesday in the County Cup game with Windscale.
But with that being postponed he’s going to have to wait to see him in a game, which will hopefully be against Windscale when a new date is arranged.
“To be fair he’s done well in training but you need to see players in a match situation,” said Grainger.
