Ulverston’s Ford Park is taking part in a challenge to raise £5,000 in a week – and every pound donated by the public will be doubled.
The park, which is maintained by volunteers, is taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge after a competitive application process.
The cash will be used for its new project, Play, Learn & Explore at Ford Park, which will see interactive information boards installed, pathways improved and the introduction of new wildflower species, including sensory planting to engage members of the community who may otherwise be unable to experience all areas of the park
Donations to Play, Learn & Explore at Ford Park will be matched by the Big Give’s Champions during the campaign.
Suzanne Edgley, grants, trust and fundraising officer at Ford Park, said: “Our park is filled with native tree and plant species that are essential to our landscape, wildlife and pollinators, and our heritage. With an estimated 10,000 visitors to Ford Park each year, many of them children, we have an opportunity to educate our community and visitors on the role trees play within the ecosystem and that we plant specific areas of the park to attract declining insect species, by providing them with the food and shelter that they need.
“This year we are looking to raise a total of £5,000. To access the £2,500 we have in the Big Give Match Pot, we need to raise £2,500 in online donations. We know that the cost of living crisis is having a huge impact on members of our community, and really do appreciate every donation made – every £1 will take us closer to our target.”
Visit theBigGive.org.uk from noon tomorrow, Tuesday, November 22, to make a donation.
The campaign will close at noon on Tuesday, December 6.
