An incident at a West Cumbrian school which saw a pupil taken to hospital could not have been prevented, parents have been told.
Emergency services were called to West Lakes Academy in Egremont on Thursday, November 10.
No details have been released about it, but a single pupil was taken to hospital and an independent health and safety investigation was launched. The student returned home last week, and psychologists were brought in to help pupils.
Now, in an update from principal Abby Deeks, parents have been told that while the full report from the investigation is due to be published later this week, the investigator’s initial feedback was that the academy’s physical environment was safe and the incident could not have been prevented.
However, she added: “That does not mean….that we should not consider changes to the building to make it even safer still. One thing we might consider is raising the height of the walls around the void areas.
“We are currently seeking advice from builders and architects on what might be possible. Once I have more detail, I will launch a consultation so everyone who wants to can have a look at the options and express their opinions.”
She added that students and support have continued to receive support and this will carry on.
