Two people where taken to hospital following a house fire in Whitehaven town centre.
Four fire crews attended the blaze, on Scotch Street, at around 1.35pm yesterday, Saturday, December 3.
The road was closed while emergency services were on the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for two hours.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service statement said: “The incident was a fire involving one domestic property which was well alight on arrival. Firefighters used two hose reel jets, ten breathing apparatus, one thermal image camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan and two triple extension ladders to bring the fire under control.
“Two casualties suffering smoke inhalation were conveyed to hospital by ambulance.”
The injuries was not believed to be serious, police said, and the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
The road remained closed while the property was made safe.
