Brian Hogan, who played 25 games for Workington Town, has died at the age of 74.
Town had bought the big, bustling prop forward for £1,500 from Wigan in January 1972.
He went on to play every game that season except the last two when he missed out through injury. Town were not doing particularly well in that era and had dropped into the Second Division.
He played 14 more games for the club – winning just four – and then Town made a profit by selling him to Bradford for £2,500.
Well adapted to the physical nature of the game, Hogan also had a smart pair of hands for off-loads and for a big forward had a deceptive turn of speed.
He played five times for Lancashire during his career and five times for England.
The St Helens-born Hogan started his career with his home town club but had three spells at Widnes, two at Wigan as well as serving Town, Bradford and Oldham.
In an 18-year career, he made over 430 senior appearances and although he failed to score in his time at Derwent Park did finish with 39 tries.
