Freemasons have donated £500 to Westmorland’s Riding for the Disabled Association branch.
Worshipful master of the Heversham Lodge presented the donation to the charity at its centre based at Willowsway Stud, Stainton, near Kendal during a recent session for children.
Although affiliated to national organisation, the Westmorland group is responsible for its own management to keep it operational, and costs are met through fund-raising activities and donations from individuals and organisations.
The group was founded in 1979 by the late Barbara Stothert and a group of like-minded friends to provide riding for children with disabilities.
Hazel Turner, of the group, said: “Whilst providing physical therapy and fun, our emphasis is on teaching riding and carriage driving for children and adults to the best of their ability.
“Each individual rider or carriage driver has their own personal goals, and our dedicated team of trained volunteer helpers and instructors support them every step of the way. Many of our participants have gained certificates in horse care, riding, and carriage driving; others reach their personal goal of riding independently, mastering the rising trot or perfecting their balance.”
