Not that it came as a surprise but Workington Reds’ NPL West game tonight at Colne has been called off.
Colne were due to make a noon inspection of their pitch but they announced over an hour before that it was unplayable and the game would have to be rearranged.
Workington had been expecting confirmation of the postponement as the freezing conditions affect most of the country.
Reds are due to travel again on Saturday, 41 miles from Colne, at Mossley and it will need a change in the weather for that one to be given the green light.
The big freeze, and snow, is expected to last for most of the week before a thaw but that might come too late to save games programmed for the week-end.
It’s potentially a big game on Saturday with third-placed Reds travelling to Mossley, who are now seventh and desperate to recover lost ground after a promising start to the season. They currently trail the west Cumbrians by seven points from the same number of games.
Mossley started the season at Borough Park where a late goal gave them a 1-0 victory.
