Workington Reds’ nail-biting wait for weekend fixture go-ahead

Seel Park, Mossley looks in poor shape ahead of this afternoon’s inspection ahead of Reds game.

Workington are waiting to hear from Mossley whether tomorrow’s NPL West game can go ahead.

Mossley have announced that they will make a pitch inspection at 3.30pm this afternoon but pictures of the Seel Park playing surface don’t look promising.

The Reds have had their last two games postponed – at home to Bootle and at Colne and a third postponement would start to produce a fixture backlog.

Reds currently lie third in the table with early pacemakers Mossley now down to seventh and like Reds they last played on December 3 with a 1-1 draw at Hanley Town.

Their game at home to Witton Albion last Saturday fell victim to the weather and the pitch has had no time to recover since then. A thaw is forecast but that is likely to come too late to save a lot of Saturday’s games.

The next scheduled game for the Reds is the home fixture on Boxing Day against Kidsgrove Athletic, a holiday fixture that should bring in a decent crowd.
