Man creates Lake District out of Lego

Lake District in Lego

Assembling complicated children’s toys bought as Christmas presents is something many parents will well remember — often with dread!

But what about the challenge of constructing a massive model of a Lake District valley made entirely from kids’ favourite Lego?

That’s what artist Jon Tordoff has achieved in 18 months, using around 200,000 of the unforgettable coloured bricks.

The results are hugely impressive and measure 100 square feet.

Jon, of Derbyshire, who fell in love with the Lake District while wild camping, is building to a roughly 1:3125 scale representing Crummock and Buttermere, and Honister and Borrowdale to Derwentwater.

That is with the caveat that it is an artistic rendering — rather than a rock-for-rock, fell-for-fell likeness, although it does include High Stile.

The Lego Lakes exhibition is now going on show at Belper Library in Derbyshire, with high hopes that it will be shown in Cumbria in 2023.

We have one word of advice for Jon when he brings it this way — don’t drop it!
