Tonight’s Fred Conway County Cup quarter final between Workington and Carlisle United has been postponed.
A local referee inspected Borough Park just after 4pm and decided that a section of the pitch was too hard.
It’s the usual strip at the town end of the ground which does not get any sun during the day.
Reds chairman Phil Norman said: “It’s disappointing because the rest of the pitch seems perfectly playable. As things stand we don’t have another date for the game.”
Reds had originally suggested this Saturday as they are without an NPL West fixture, but Carlisle weren’t keen.
Manager Paul Simpson planned to give game time in the quarter final to players who hadn’t seen much action lately with the first team.
Some of those will probably be with United on Saturday for their League Two trip to Bradford City.
With rain forecast later in the early hours there has been a suggestion that the tie could be rearranged for tomorrow night, but there has been no official comment from either club.
The Reds v Blues clash was the first of the quarter finals to be played with the other ties fitted in later.
Unisun Athletic take on Carlisle City on Tuesday, February 7 in a game switched to Gillford Park.
On the Saturday, February 11 Greystoke host Whitehaven and Keswick entertain Penrith.
