Everyone is welcome at the AGM of Cockermouth and District Chamber of Trade next month.
This is the meeting where anyone can put themselves forward to get involved in the chamber, and where the formal officers’ positions are elected.
Any interested business owners are more than welcome to come along, whether they are sole traders or employ teams of staff, from every type of business. Retail, hospitality, tradespeople and professional services are all represented.
The chamber’s aim is to showcase the town to locals and visitors, support businesses, work with the local authorities and increase footfall through events and other initiatives.
It built and hosts the Cockermouth Online website which has more than 7,000 visitors a month and features news and profiles of member businesses.
The chamber has also created promotional films which have attracted more than 250,000 views, sends a monthly e-newsletter which has more than 5,000 subscribers, organised Facebook competitions on the Cockermouth Town page with thousands of entrants, and advertised the town in publications.
It also supports and participates in festivals like Taste Cumbria and sets up new events like the hugely successful Charities Weekend.
Andrew Marshall is the current chairman. He said: “I’ll be standing down as chairman this February after an enjoyable but challenging few years as we’ve made sure to keep Cockermouth on the map through COVID lockdowns and some real changes to high streets across the land.
“I’m happy to speak to anyone who wants to get involved in the chamber as we continue recruit new members and new volunteers. I want to see our lovely town go from strength to strength.”
If you wish to stand for election as a chamber officer, or nominate someone else, please do so by no later than 5pm on Friday February 17 by emailing secretary William Moore at [email protected]
Anyone wishing to attend the AGM is welcome to just turn up at The Vicky on High Sand Lane at 6pm on Tuesday February 28.
