Veteran Rochdale defender Jim McNulty believes if VAR had operated in the Carlisle United game it would have produced a different result.
Carlisle maintained their promotion push with a 1-0 win but had to survive one or two controversial moments.
McNulty told the club website: “Having looked back, and we don’t have VAR, but if we did, we know the game would have had a different result today.
“Hendo’s goal late on is onside, Devante Rodney’s penalty incident is a certain penalty.
“There’s a blatant red card on myself, which VAR would have mopped up, then it’s a different game against 10 men in the first-half.”
In the end John-Kymani Gordon’s early goal was all that separated the two teams, leaving Rochdale rooted to the fioot of thew table and Carlisle hot on the heels of the top three.
McNulty’s take on the game was: “It was a scrap and I don’t think there was a lot of quality in it.
“They are all singing from the same hymn sheet – they know what they’re doing, and you can see why they’re fourth in the table. They’re an efficient side, they turn the ball, the hustle for it, they play second balls well through midfield.
“But there’s a slight feeling of disappointment because we know the result could have gone a different way. I do feel that we were right there in the scrap with them, all game.
“I see us turning a corner. I think we’ve made three very good signings in the last couple of days, which the fans can take heart from.”
Carlisle will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host county rivals Barrow at Brunton Park.
