Gosforth took control in the battle for the County League’s Premier Division title as they beat UniSun Athletic for the second time in three weeks at the Sheepmount.
Jay Weatherill gave Gosforth the lead in a closely fought first half, heading home from an excellent free kick delivery.
After a close game two weeks prior, which UniSun felt aggrieved to have lost, the hosts were looking to hit back in the second half as they looked to keep their place at the top of the league.
But frustration got the better of them as they played the second half with a man disadvantage.
Tempers boiled over and UniSun were reduced to ten men as the referee sin-binned UniSun players on two separate occasions before showing another UniSun player a red card with ten minutes of the game remaining.
Gosforth took full advantage and further goals from Weatherill, Jack Denwood and Robbie Bagley gave them a 4-0 win which took them to the top of the league with UniSun dropping to third.
Workington Reds Development climbed up to second with an excellent win over in-form Maryport.
A Josh Palmer double and one each for Zach Martin, Jack Brown and Thomas Downes gave them a 5-2 win, with Ethan Weir and Ciaran Booty scoring for Maryport.
Harvey Harrison gave Wigton victory over Whitehaven Miners with the only goal of the game while honours were even in the bottom of the table clash between Cockermouth and Aspatria.
Richard Hudson grabbed two and Malc Graham added the other for Aspatria, while Keith Skillen (2) and Macauley Sharp scored for Cockermouth.
In Division One Bransty kept their promotion dreams alive as they overcame league leaders Carlisle City 3-2.
Two goals from Spike Cavaghan and one from Darren Johnston was enough for the victory.
Cleator Moor kept themselves in contention at the top with a 3-1 win away to Windscale.
Lewis Close, Harry Watson and Harley Cueto gave them an unassailable lead before Darren Donald grabbed one back for Windscale.
City stay top but their lead is cut to three points though they are expected to see out their remaining two games to clinch the title.
The race for second place is potentially even tighter with Cleator Moor trailing Bransty by nine points but with three games in hand.
