Carlisle United’s injury updates

Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson has given a couple of injury updates ahead of the home game with Harrogate.

Striker Tobi Sho-Silva is still waiting to see a specialist following the training ground injury sustained on his ankle last Friday.

After limping out of the session he has spent the last seven days in a protective boot, with a scan revealing grade three tears to two ligaments.

Simpson said: “We still don’t have an appointment date for him. He’s been in doing upper body stuff but we don’t know when he’ll see the surgeon. We’re hoping to get it for him very soon.

“From the scan, we can’t be sure, but we’re thinking he will need surgery. We need to wait and see but it’s a big blow for us all, Tobi included. I said the other night that the likely period after the surgery is three months, and that really isn’t nice.”

Defender Jack Ellis is still on the sidelines and Simpson said: “He’s certainly showing improvements, but we originally talked about four to six weeks, and it’s maybe set him back a week or two.

“This weekend will be too early for him so he won’t be involved.

“We’ll see how he progresses over the week. He joined in training with us on Friday and Monday and was getting to a point where he was doing everything with us, but when we did some extensive runs afterwards he felt it towards the end.

“We thought it was fatigue but it’s something more than that, so we’ll rein him in a bit and see how he progresses over the rest of this week, with a view to looking at whether he’s right for the Wimbledon game.”

Otherwise Simpson should have a full squad to choose from against Harrogate.
