The final round of qualification in the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removal and Demolition sponsored Eric McMullen Memorial TKO Handicap Trophy dominated the local snooker scene.

In Group One Workington’s Station Road Club moved through to the semis at the expense of their opponents as they won 4-1 ar Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.

Adam Morilla (+45 handicap) got the Rack Shack off the mark with a win in the first, however Station Road hit back immediately as Darren Lawson (+29) won the second.

A Mike Walker victory soon made it 2-1 and as team mate Chris Hunter (+32) won the next on the black Station Road Club moved 3-1 ahead.

The final frame of the match saw Mark Robertson (+32) add to the winning margin but more importantly the victory ensured Station Road Club receive a home tie in the semi finals.

Having completed their qualifying fixtures in the previous round Workington Golf Club A are the other Group One semi-finalists.

In the other Group One game Maryport Social Club defeated Workington Golf Club B 4-1 at home. Even though qualification was already out for both teams the winners Maryport still have a plate tie to look forward to.

A Ben Scott (+34) victory followed by a black ball win from Andrew Sharp (+32) in frame two put Maryport 2-0 up.

The third frame saw Gary Miller (+45) make it 3-0 and as Andrew Scott (+39) won the fourth a Social Club whitewash looked on the cards.

However Ellis Brasted (+40) had other ideas and with a high-scoring win in the last the Golf Club B’s blushes were saved.

In Group Two already qualified Flimby Social Club will now be joined by Workington Conservative Club as they won 3-2 at Workington Veterans Club.

The first frame saw the highest break in all competitions this season, 92 by Vets captain Kevin Basnett (Scr), take care of the game but with Richard McCarthy (+11) in fine potting form in frame two parity was achieved.

Frame three saw Alan Moore (+10) come from 40 points behind to put Cons 2-1 up but back came the Vets as Mark Tunstall (+18) delivered a tactical clinic to take the match into a decider.

In the final frame the Vets Club took the early advantage however with some dogged play it was Dave Holland (+29) who ensured his team moved through to the semis.

The semi-finals will be (first named teams at home); Station Road Club vs Flimby Social Club and Workington Conservative Club vs Workington Golf Club A. Ties will take place on Wednesday 2nd March.

The TKO Plate semis will be; Rack Shack vs Workington Veterans Club and United Club v Maryport Social Club. Ties will also take place on Wednesday March 2.
