Flimby Social extended their Division Two lead to five points in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League on the back of a 3-2 win at Maryport Social.

A first frame break of 37 from Kevin Kirkham was enough to put Flimby 1-0 up but with an Andrew Sharp win on the last couple of balls in the next the scores were level at 1-1.

A Michael ‘Sid’ Walker win in the next regained the lead for Flimby at 2-1 however back came Maryport and with the highest scoring game of the match Andrew Scott ensured the game went to a decider.

In the final frame Paul Vickers started well and in displaying a continuation of the fine form he has been in of late the Flimby cueist powered his side to victory.

Flimby sit on top of Division Two on 34 points with Maryport three places lower in fourth on 19 points.

Workington Golf Club A continue to get stronger as the weeks go by and with a 4-1 away win to Division Two’s Station Road Club they moved further ahead in their pursuit of the Division One title.

Ryan Ismay opened up with a win in the first which was soon backed up by with a victory in frame two, this time from Bryan Walker, to put the Golf Club A 2-0 up.

As frame three also went to the golfers with a win from Phil Sorfleet an unassailable 3-0 lead was gained.

Up next Mark Cowen continued the Golf Club A streak for a 4-0 lead but with a victory to avoid the whitewash in the last Station Road Clubs’ Mike Walker also added a break of 37 to his aggregate tally to end the match 4-1.

The Golf Club A top Division One on 42 points and Station Road Club stay second in Division Two on 29 points.

Workington Veterans Club avenged last week’s painful cup defeat to Workington Conservative Club with a hard fought 3-2 home win.

Richard McCarthy put the visitors 1-0 up but with a break of 56 Kevin Basnett ensured the match score was level.

An Alan Moore third frame victory put the Cons Club in the lead again at 2-1 but with a win, after needing a snooker, Mark Tatton took the match to a decider.

In the final frame the momentum swayed both ways before Steve Garroway eventually grabbed the points he required to carry his side over the line for a confidence boosting win. Cons slip to third in Division One on 37 points and Vets sit one place lower on 32 points.

Finally, Workington’s United Club improved their Division One placing with a solid 3-2 away victory against Division Two’s Rack Shack.

The Whitehaven side started off well as Stephen Harrison took the first but the United Club bounced back immediately as Dave Chapman won the next.

Andy Moore put The Rack Shack back in front at 2-1 with a victory in frame three before Mark Suitor returned the compliment with a win on the last two balls in frame four.

At 2-2 a steady nerve was required and up for the task United Club captain, Andrew Mitchelhill, delivered to grab an important match victory. The United Club move up to second in Division Two on 38 points with The Rack Shack still third in Division Two on 20 points.

The Cumbria County Doubles Championship will again be held at Carlisle’s Qzone where league players Kevin Basnett and Andrew Mitchelhill will defend their title on Sunday, March 12th (10-30am roll call) with entries being taken on the day.
