Barrow were out of luck again when they went down 1-0 in a tight game at Doncaster.
It was the Dons third win in a row but the defeat continued Barrow’s disappointing run which has earned only one win in the last nine games.
Doncaster’s improvement has been based on solid defence for this was their third successive clean sheet.
Wing-back James Maxwell was the match winner with his strike on 18 minutes enough to settle it. He reacted well to fire home after an initial header from a James Brown cross had been blocked.
The Dons, who had made a bright start, were the better side in the first-half and twice went close to adding to their lead but powerful efforts from Luke Molyneux were just off target.
Barrow had their best moments in the second half when goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell, a former Workington loanee, came to his side’s aid.
He held onto a Billy Waters drive at his near post and late on foiled Ged Garner and Waters to preserve the Doncaster lead.
But Doncaster were not short of opportunities and George Miller was close to a second when he volleyed in a Brown cross.
Barrow have now dropped to 14th in the table, some seven points below the promotion play-off places.
