Cumbria Crack has been publishing the daily locations of Cumbria police’s road safety camera vans for over two years – but now they will no longer be available.
The information comes from Cumbria police and the force said that it was now trying something new and would no longer be making the locations public.
Cumbria Constabulary was one of a handful of forces nationally to introduce the publishing of locations and a spokesman said it was now trying a different approach.
He added: “Our hope is that the change will mean the potential for the safety camera vans to be anywhere will influence driver behaviour positively, helping make roads safer countywide for all.
“However, the locations chosen will not be random. They will continue to be influenced by road safety data and areas of concern highlighted by the local community.”
He stressed that the goal of the cameras was not to ‘catch people out’ but to use resources in the best way to make roads safer.
