
It’s been almost a year but hooker James Newton is close to a return to action for Whitehaven.
The former Millom amateur who had a spell with Workington Town has been named in Haven’s match squad for the crucial home clash with Swinton Lions tomorrow.
Newton hasn’t figured in a Whitehaven team for almost a year – 351 days to be exact – but he is in the 21 named by coach Jonty Gorley to take on the Lions.
It has been a long road back for Newton after suffering a knee injury but he has been training enthusiastically for a few weeks now.
Alex Bishop, who missed the trip to Featherstone last week, returns to the squad while Jake Bradley and Lasarusa Tabu miss out from the squad named last week.
