Whitehaven have confirmed today that their Betfred Challenge Cup third round fixture at London Broncos will take place on Saturday 11th March. Kick off at 3pm.
Clubs involved in the third round ties can play on the Saturday or Sunday (March 12) and Whitehaven have agreed to travel to London on Friday for the game the following day.
The sides have already met this season in the Betfred Championship at the LEL Arena when the Broncos came out on top 20-16.
The third round tie will take place at London’s Plough Lane ground scheduled either side of League away games for Jonty Gorley’s side meaning three consecutive weeks on the road.
The travelling is huge as they play in France on Saturday at Toulouse; then have to face the Cup trip to London a week later before they visit York on Sunday, March 19.
The road to Wembley begins with the club looking to replicate their run to the sixth round last season when they welcomed St Helens to the LEL Arena. A crowd just short of 5000 packed out the ground on the day to see the Super League stars in action.
Barrow Raiders have also confirmed that their Challenge Cup tie at home to Swinton Lions will be played on Sunday, 12 March at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium (3pm kick-off).
Last season, the Raiders went on a memorable run to the sixth round of the competition, culminating in a 30-16 home defeat to Super League side Huddersfield Giants.
It will be the second meeting this season between Barrow and Swinton, with the Lions running out 20-18 winners in their home Betfred Championship game against the Raiders.
Amateurs Wath Brow Hornets will have to contend with the notorious Batley slope when they travel there to face the Bulldogs.
After a comfortable win against Brentwood Eels in Essex, the Hornets were drawn at Batley in round three and it has been set for the Sunday (March 12).
Workington Town are the third Cumbrian side who must travel in the third round.
They have also confirmed that their tie at Doncaster will be played on the Sunday.
Unlike the other Cumbrian sides, however, they don’t have a game this Sunday following the resignation of South Wales from League Two.
