First game in the 2023 Cumberland Amateur RL season was an EB Lamb Amateur Cup preliminary round tie.
It proved a one-sided affair as Wath Brow Hornets A built on a 44-6 half-time lead to beat Glasson Rangers 76-12.
Hornets had opened with three tries, two converted by Jenson Olstrum in the first 15 minutes.
Although Matt Burns crossed for Glasson after 22 minutes and Luke Johnson added the extras, Peter Caddy’s second try of the game on 24 minutes cut short the Glasson fightback.
Liam Mattinson and Luke Spivey had scored the first two Wath Brow tries and before half-time there were further tries by Brad White, Jamie McCallister, Luke Davison and Jack Meagan.
In the second-half Caddy completed his hat-trick; Meagan scored two more for his treble and there were touchdowns for McCallister, Jamie Devine and Jack Casey.
Olstrum finished with nine successful conversions and there was also one from Kevin Christian.
Jon Cameron crossed for Glasson’s second try, again converted by Johnson.
It gives Wath Brow A a home tie in the quarter finals on Saturday against Distington.
Egremont A will host Ellenborough A in their quarter final on Friday night while Saturday sees the other two ties – Kells A v Maryport and Hensingham A v Lowca.
