Cleator Moor Celtic picked up a fine 4-0 win at Daisy Hill in the North West Counties Premier Division.
It didn’t alter their position at the bottom of the table but it did illustrate the potential in the young side.
Manager Brian Dawson said: “The result has been a long time coming if I’m honest as we’ve played much better and lost games this season.
“The difference this time was we took our chances – that’s all – and as everyone keeps saying goals change matches.
“We changed our shape and game plan from recent weeks to get more players in and around their area.
“We also looked much more comfortable in possession. We controlled the game and once we got a couple of goals to the good you could see the confidence in our play, everyone wanted to get on the ball.
“We know the potential in the group is huge. They’re young but they’re adapting to the League now.
“If we could wipe the slate clean now and restart the season I’m very confident we’d be fine but we might have just left ourselves too much to do in terms of staying in the League.
“Hopefully we can kick-on again at Tuesday night at Holker Old Boys. If we can get something from that then who knows.”
Jack Burns opened the scoring on 20 minutes and they went in at half-time with a 2-0 lead after Conor Hammell doubled the advantage.
Hammell made it 3-0 on 54 minutes with a penalty and on the hour Luke Close completed the scoring.
Tuesday’s opponents Holker OB are on a disappointing run of form and on Saturday crashed 5-1 at AFC Blackpool.
The Cumbrians were already 4-0 down when Brandon Collins netted on 54 minutes.
Josh Winder (15), Blerti Jacaj (40), Jacob Gregory (45 +3) and Liam Birchall (50) all scored before Collins.
Birchall added the fifth goal nine minutes from the end.
