A man and woman accused of robbery and false imprisonment will stand trial in front of a jury later this year.
Bradley Clayton, 23, and 21-year-old Chloe Sinton appeared together in the dock at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today.
During a short hearing they pleaded not guilty to two charges.
One of these alleges the false imprisonment of a man who is said to have been unlawfully and injuriously detained against his will.
A second charges alleges that Clayton and Sinton robbed the same man of clothing and jewellery.
The charges arise out of alleged incidents on October 2 of last year.
They are now due to stand trial in the week of July 3 when it is estimated the hearing will last around three days.
In the meantime, Clayton and Sinton, both of George Street, Whitehaven, were reminded to co-operate with their legal team in the preparation of a key pre-trial statement. Judge David Potter told the pair: “That must set out in full what you say your defence is to these charges, what you take issue with and why.”
Clayton and Sinton have also been granted bail in the meantime. Conditions prohibit them from contacting a number of people in the case, including the complainant, and from entering a specified street in Whitehaven.
