Bad weather reduces games played in Workington and District Sunday League

Only two games were played in the Workington and District Sunday League as the bad weather bit again.

One was a repeat of the Aspatria derby between Sun Inn and Sun Inn Athletic after a recent Cup-tie between the pair had finished all square before going to penalties.

This time the 90-minute result was repeated and both sides had to settle for a point each from a 2-2 draw.

Referee Steve Rule got a massive thumbs-up from Sun Inn’s Mel Scott who said: “I thought he was superb. He let it flow which is like a Sunday League game should be.”

Mally Graham and Andrew Trestianu scored the goals for the Sun Inn with Mark Campbell and Luke Day responding for the Athletic.

In the other game Deer Orchard collected maximum points from a very good 5-2 win at Salterbeck which moved them three points behind leaders Blue Bell with a game in hand.

But Northside are alongside them in joint second and they have three games in hand of the leaders.

Luke Graham (2), Luke Harrison, Ben Wright and Luke Ivison scored the Deer Orchard goals with Leon Wharrier scoring both for Salterbeck.

In the semi-final of the Sunday County Cup, to be played on April 2, Northside will have home advantage over Scotby while holders Inter Pirelli travel to Denton Holme in the other tie.

Northside will catch-up with one of those games in hand on Sunday when they entertain Sun Inn while the two other League fixtures are Salterbeck v Rangers and Senhouse Street v Dearham Commercial.
