Workington Town coach Anthony Murray was among the fans who witnessed last Saturday’s fiery Challenge Cup-tie between Orrell St James and Midlands Hurricanes.
As a consequence three players have been charged following the ill-disciplined third round tie.
Murray said: “It was like a throw-back, a real feisty affair and I’m not surprised at the consequences. I went to watch because Orrell is handy for me and we play Midlands Hurricanes away on March 26, our next game after Dewsbury.
“To be fair Orrell gave it a real go but there were a number of incidents in a bad-tempered contest.”
The fixture in Wigan included three sin bins and three red cards all inside an explosive 10 minutes.
Two players from the National Conference League outfit have been referred to next Tuesday’s operational rules tribunal.
Sam Wilson has been charged with a Grade F punching charge while Jake Williams faces a Grade E dangerous throw charge.
Wilson has also been charged with using foul and abusive language towards the match official, a Grade D charge which carries a two-match penalty notice.
Midlands Hurricanes forward Don Flanagan was sent off for a late hit on Wilson. He has been charged with a Grade C dangerous contact charge which carried a one match penalty notice.
Town stage League One’s Match of the Day tomorrow against Dewsbury and will be missing forward Tom Curwen after he suffered a broken ankle in last week’s Challenge Cup defeat at Doncaster.
Murray also has a couple of other concerns ahead of the game against the Rams who were relegated with Town last season.
Dewsbury head coach Liam Finn has named his 21-strong squad as: Owen Restall, Lewis Carr, Ollie Greensmith, Paul Sykes, Callum Turner, Jimmy Bechett, Reiss Butterworth, Dale Ferguson, Connor Davies, Matt Garside, Sam Day, Ronan Dixon, Elliot Morris, Brad Graham, Simon Frewin, Jackson Walker, Caelum Jordan, Jack Coventry, Perry Whiteley, Tom Wilkinson, Bailey O’Connor.
