Penrith picked up three valuable points from their home clash with Redcar Athletic.
It finished 3-2 to the Cumbrians who climbed two places in the table and still have games in hand on clubs around them.
Manager Darren Edmondson was delighted with the result, especially as he was short of some experienced players and had two debutants in the line-up.
“Really the most important thing from this game was getting the three points.
“But the team showed great character against a more experienced, physical side to twice come from behind and eventually win it.
“To go 1-0 down and 2-1 later, it asked a bit of them and they came through it.
“They had a man sent off just before half-time, which changed the game a bit and in the second half we had chances to extend our advantage.”
Edmondson had a particular word for young Oli Reay who came in for his first start and he grabbed the first equaliser and the winner.
Fellow debutant Ben Davidson also won praise for his lively work on the flank.
Dan Boyle gave Redcar the lead on nine minutes but Reay levelled two minutes later.
Boyle scored his second on the half hour but again the advantage was cancelled out inside two minutes with Johnny Murray on target for the Bonny Blues.
JoeThompson was sent off for Redcar three minutes before the break and later in the game they were down to nine with a player in the sin bin.
Reay scored what proved to be the winner for Penrith in the 58th minute.
On Saturday Penrith travel to Newcastle Benfield and on Wednesday have what amounts to a six pointer at Northallerton.
Lying 16th in a 20-club League, Penrith are a point better off than Northallerton but having played two games fewer than Wednesday’s hosts.
