Workington Reds skipper Danny Grainger is looking for another reaction from his players this weekend at Borough Park.
Reds host Glossop North End, their first NPL West game since slipping to a painfully poor 3-0 defeat at City of Liverpool last Saturday.
In between games Reds beat Carlisle City 4-0 on Tuesday to reach the final of the Fred Conway County Cup.
“I asked for a reaction in mid-week and got one. Now I want another reaction ahead of a League game as we build momentum towards the end of the season.
“Tuesday was a lot letter with a lot more movement, a lot more hard work, especially out of possession.
“That was more like it and I want that again and more against Glossop,” said Grainger.
The Reds boss hopes to have skipper Conor Tinnion available for selection again and Ben Hughes is nearing his first League game of the season after fighting back from a long injury lay-off.
Ceiran Casson will probably need another week before he’s available and Sam Smith still has two matches of his ban to sit-out.
Smith hurt his knee on Tuesday but it appears to have settled down and hopefully will be ready to resume when his suspension is over.
Grainger, though, has plenty of options and said: “With the players available I know there are going to be a couple of them disappointed with selection. It will be a headache but that’s what we want, competition for places.
“Glossop won’t be easy because they are well organised and competition. I just can’t believe where they are in the League next to bottom.” Reds are playing their part in Non League Day tomorrow with free entry for young players from the West Cumbria Youth League and a discounted offer for parents.
Players simply need to attend wearing their own club colours and they, along with their parents, will be admitted at the dedicated turnstile in a no fuss approach. No bookings are necessary and cash will be taken on the gate.
On the day, Reds are also hosting a group of Groundhoppers who will be entertained and shown round the ground ahead of kick-off.
Last season an inaugural Groundhoppers Day at Borough Park proved a great success.
Indeed some of those from Southend who travelled agreed it was the best ground visit they had made.
As well as tomorrow’s visit from 14 Ground Hoppers, mainly from the North East, Reds are also inviting Hoppers from around the country to visit Borough Park for the last two games – against Witton Albion (April 8) and Colne (April 22).
Director Les Byers said: “The first event last year was such a success we are rounding off this season with three.
“For a cost of £30 the Ground Hoppers get admission, a pie and a pint, a programme, team sheet, conducted tour with opportunity to take pictures and will meet our manager.
“We really enjoyed having them last year and I know everyone is looking forward to entertaining a different group this time.”
