Cleator Moor Celtic had to rely on a late goal to earn a 2-2 home draw with Ashton Town.

It was an own goal in the seventh minute of time added on but the point still left Celtic adrift at the bottom.

Luke Close had put the Cumbrians ahead after 19 minutes but Luke Edwards levelled for the visitors on 32 minutes.

In the fourth minute of added time at the end of the half Ashton got their noses ion front with a goal from Ben Glendon.

Manager Brian Dawson said: “It was a disappointing performance from the lads. To be honest I sensed it in the warm-up.

“We looked lethargic and pedestrian in possession, the total opposite from last week.

“We did start brightly and deservedly took the lead through Luke Close before conceding two poor goals before half time.

“They went down to 10 men and in truth this spoilt the game a little. They just sat in and tried to run down the clock which you would do, so credit to them. They were organised and difficult to break down.

“We made a few changes, including the shape in an effort to get back into it. Had we scored a little earlier I think we would have gone on and won the game but we had to wait until the last kick of the game for the equaliser.

“It was probably our worst performance for a number of weeks but we have to take the positives which is a point on the board.

“However it certain;ly felt like two points dropped rather than one point gained.

“We need a positive reaction on Tuesday night as we host Nelson in our final home game before four away games in a week.”

Meanwhile Holker Old Boys reignited their play-off places after a poor run of form with a good 2-1 win at Steeton.

It enabled the south Cumbrians to leapfrog their hosts into sixth place and the fringe of the play-offs.

Tom Dawson had given Holker a seventh minute lead which was cancelled out six minutes into the second half by Mohamed Mohamoud.

However three minutes later Dawson scored his second to restore the Holker lead and they held it until the end.

With fixtures in hand over all the teams above them Holker have an important home game on Tuesday night against second in the table Chadderton.
