Four more points from their final four games would ensure Penrith’s survival in Northern League Division One.
They have a cushion now over the bottom two with games in hand but now face a tough test against Bishop Auckland.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “It could be a case of the walking wounded against Bishops and we will have next Saturday’s big game with Tow Law in mind.
“Bishops are second in the table for a reason and it would have been tough enough against them with a full team.”
Edmondson was happy enough with a point from Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Whickham.
“They are sixth in the table and score a few goals so the clean sheet was a bonus and it was definitely a point gained.
“We tried to be a bit more expansive in the second-half and we did hit the woodwork but they also had one cleared off the line.
“Overall though before this week I would definitely have taken the four points we earned with the win over Carlisle City and this draw against Whickham,” he said.
Penrith host Bishops tomorrow; travel to Tow Law next Saturday; entertain Heaton Stannington on Tuesday April 18 and finish off at Frenchfield again on April 22 against potential champions Newton Aycliffe.
Penrith, with four games to play have 35 points and below them Thornaby (29) and Pickering (27) both have three left.
