Carlisle United’s goal drought continued with their latest 0-0 draw which means they have failed to score in six of their last seven games.
It was a key game, too, as they and visitors Northampton both have ambitions to finish in automatic play-off berths.
Largely down to goalkeepers Tomas Holy and Lee Burge they had to settle for a share of the spoils at Brunton Park which kept the Cobblers in second place.
Carlisle drop to fifth and have another massive game on Tuesday when they host fourth-placed Stockport County who scrambled a late equaliser at Gillingham.
Holy was the United hero when he denied Northampton’s top scorer Sam Hoskins and Will Hondermarck early in the second-half.
Then it was Carlisle’s leading scorer Kristian Dennis who twice in quick succession brought the best out of Northampton’s Burge.
Carlisle however, were adamant that Dennis’ second attempt had crossed the line before Burge managed to grab the ball but referee Rebecca Welch played on.
It was a big effort from Jon Brady’s side as they had 12 players missing through injury and they have only lost one of their last 11 games.
