Creighton players did the club proud in the Papa John’s competition, taking Leigh to extra time before falling to a gritty 32-20 defeat.
Two minutes before half time Creighton led 8-7 following a Chris Marsh try and Keenan Foster penalty.
Crucially Foster’s conversion attempt hit the post, but Leigh hit back with an unconverted try to lead at the break 12-7.
The second half was a seesaw affair with the lead changing hands on several occasions.
The visitors scored tries through Harry Moth and Tom Verlaque to lead 20-17 until the last play of normal time.
Unfortunately a penalty was conceded directly in front of the posts which enabled Leigh to level the scores to take the tie into extra time.
Creighton ran out of steam in the additional period to concede two tries to make the final score 32-20 to Leigh.
There was no disgrace in losing to a side who play at a slightly higher level, and everyone involved with the Creighton club can be pleased with this season’s progress.
Wigton, meanwhile, progressed in their Papa John’s competition – without breaking sweat.
Their scheduled visitors Hartlepool pulled out by conceding the tie in the morning – four hours before the scheduled kick-off.
Wigton now await the draw for the quarter finals.
