Wath Brow and Millom emerged as the only Cumbrian winners over the latest National Conference League programme.
The Hornets moved third in the Premier Division with an excellent 15-2 win at Siddal after they had conceded the first points of the game through a Richard Pogson penalty.
They were unable to add to that as Wath Brow were solid defensively all game and had worked their way into a 6-2 lead by half-time.
Daniel Burns went over for the first Wath Brow try after half an hour and Sam Curwen added the conversion.
Two minutes intpo the second-half Curwen put over a penalty and after the hosts had a man sin-binned after an hour Curwen darted over for a try which he improved.
It stayed that way until six minutes from the end when Cole Walker-Taylor landed a field goal.
In Division Three Millom moved second with an excellent 36-18 win at Drighlington in what, at times was a fiery contest. Drighlington had a man sent-off and another in the sin bin, while Millom copped two yellow cards.
It was 24-0 before the red card in the first half and by the 52nd minute the Millom led had increased to 36-0.
Amanaki Saumaki (2), Ethan Kelly, Jack Newbegin, Jackson Evans, Brad Crellin and Harley Thompson scored the Millom tries with four goals from Lee Postlethwaite.
The hosts had the better of the final quarter when they scored 18 unanswered points, including four tries.
But for the rest of the Cumbrian participants in the NCL it was a disappointing week-end.
Kells had been going well on their return to the Premier Division but came unstuck at Rochdale Mayfield, so often a bogey ground for the Cumbrians, where they lost 40-12.
The home side had built a 20-0 lead before Joe Johnstone scored a Kells try just before half-time and Grant Gainford converted.
It was a similar 20-6 points split in the second half with the Kells try coming from Sam Murtagh with Gainford again converting.
Egremont Rangers are dangerously close to the drop zone in Division One following last season’s relegation from the top flight.
They went down 34-14 at home to leaders West Bowling after they had closed to 22-14 just short of the hour. Two converted tries in the final qiuarter carried the Bradford side through to victory.
Rangers had led 10-6 with tries from Kris Tyson and Sam Appleby, one of which was converted by Tyson. But the visitors had drawn level before half-time and scored two converted tries early in the second-half.
An unconverted try from Tom Carruthers offered Egremont hope but they couldn’t close the gap and West Bowling pulled away to claim the points and stay two points clear at the top.
Barrow Island could have gone joint top with a win at Myton Warriors in Division Two but they went down 36-20.
Stand-off Nathan Slater was the hero with four tries for Myton after the two sides had turned round all square at 14-14.
Dan Wright (2) and Carl McBain scored the Barrow Island tries with Sam Jones kicking four goals.
Ellenborough Rangers suffered a 44-18 defeat at Oldham St Anne’s to slip out ofn the top three in Division Three for the first time. Their conquerors take over at the top.
The damage was done in the final quarter of the game for midway through the second half Elbra held an 18-16 advantage. The final score, at that stage, could not have possibly been predicted.
But from that point St Anne’s took control and scored five tries, four of which were converted.
Paul Gorge’s men had forged their lead with tries by Zac Olstrum (2) and Sean Mumberson with three goals by Owen Hoyles.
Seaton Rangers are finding it touch this season after such a splendid first year in the competition. They travelled to Beverley with only 14 men and were duly thumped 80-6. Lewis Brown was their try scorer with Jon-Carl Bryan landing the conversion.
Hensingham travelled to Bentley and lost 22-6, which was their hosts’ first win of the season. Nathan Frankland scored the try with Miles Dalton converting.
