Fewer games may be postponed in the Cumberland ARL if a proposal is agreed to by the Rugby Football League.
Members heard a suggestion at last night’s clubs meeting that teams should be able to loan players if the opposition are short.
If a club has only, for example 11 players, and their opponents has 20, it was suggested that players could be “borrowed” to ensure the game goes ahead.
It was clear from those in attendance that the clubs agreed to this suggestion, and likewise a proposal that if both clubs had 18 players could they play with a squad of 18 rather than leaving players out.
It was said that lads are paying £24 to play rugby league and this would help to ensure more people got game time.
League secretary Lorraine Degraffe is to contact the RFL to see if this is possible or as an alternative if it could be created as a rule in the CARL League.
The draw for the 2023 Cumberland Cup was made at the meeting with two preliminary round ties to be played in the week ending April 29.
Clubs must agree what date they are playing these fixtures and inform the secretary whether it is Friday or Saturday – Glasson Rangers v Hensingham A; Wath Brow Hornets A v Lowca
The quarter final ties are to be played in the week ending June 10 Ellenborough A v Distington; Winner of Wath Brow A/Lowca v Winner of Glasson/Hensingham A; Cockermouth v Egremont; Maryport v Kells A.
