Windscale return home and celebrate win

Windscale returned to the Falcon Complex following three consecutive away fixtures, two in midweek in which they secured four league points – and celebrated with a win.

They entertained South Moor and collected a further three points from an excellent 4-1 victory.

It was Ross Leeson who gave the Atoms the lead heading in at the near post following a flick on from a corner kick.  Andrew Begbie almost doubled the lead, picking up a pass from Matt Metcalf, but his effort just went the wrong side of the post.

The Atoms eventually did double their advantage thanks to the Ben Graham, Lewis Jolly combination.  Graham fed the ball through to Jolly who had the simplest of tasks to tap the ball into the back of the net.

Windscale’s goal then came under threat.  Firstly a long range effort from Brandon Lyons went close and this was followed shortly after when the hosts were thankful to keeper Andrew Richardson who managed to divert the ball to safety with his legs when Moor’s Adrian Bailey was put through one-on-one.

The Atoms advantage was increased prior to the break courtesy of an own goal. Following a run down the right by Jolly, his cross into the box was unfortunately diverted beyond South Moor custodian, Ethan Bridge by central defender, Jon Davies.

South Moor exerted some early pressure at the start of the second period, and they were disappointed to see a Lyons free kick fly narrowly over the Atoms crossbar.

Following this wake up call, Jolly found himself clear on goal, but Bridge saved Jolly’s effort at the expense of a corner.  The reprieve was short lived, as from the resulting flag-kick the ball was forced over the line by Matty Pierce to give the hosts a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Windscale were on top after this creating several good scoring opportunities, particularly from Jolly, Graham, Lewis White and Reece Fretwell.

However, it was South Moor who had the final say, when Jeremie Anderson Da Costa scored with a slick finish.

Windscale travel to the North East on Saturday, hopefully to eventually complete their twice-postponed fixture with Wolviston.
