Windscale returned home from their final away fixture in the Wearside League at Wolviston with a point earned in a 3-3 draw after a game that had everything.
It was the visitors who exerted the early pressure but were unable to register anything on the score-sheet. Then Wolviston opened the scoring with a breakaway goal slotted home by Robbie Gratton.
The Atoms continued on the front foot but Wolviston doubled their lead when Michael McGee, back from his stint in the Northern League, headed home from a corner kick.
Following this setback, Joe Phillipson and Will Rooke went close for the Atoms but were unable to convert the opportunities. The visitors fell further behind when Wolviston were awarded a penalty and James Webb stepped-up to give them a flattering 3-0 lead.
Cameron Carter brought some reality to the score-line following a move instigated by Matty Pierce. After leaving a number of the opposition in his wake, Pierce released the ball to Carter who weaved through a number of defenders before finishing well to register the Atoms first response.
In this game of twists and turns, Wolviston were awarded a further penalty but the chance was wasted with the resultant spot-kick fired over the crossbar.
Rooke again went close for the Atoms directing a header inches wide to leave the score 3-1 to the hosts at the break.
Following the restart, Pierce almost doubled scored a second for the Atoms after breaking through to set up a one-on-one with Wolviston keeper, Paul Wright, and he was unable to convert.
Windscale were reduced to 10 men when Phillipson was dismissed, allegedly for the use of foul language. A large scuffle then ensued following the dismissal with the Atoms reduced to nine men when Carter received a second yellow card.
Amazingly the arrears were reduced when Pierce received the ball in the box and after controlling it on his chest, turned and slotted it home to give the visitors some hope in taking something from the game.
It was substitute Ryan Byrne who brought parity to the scores at 3-3. Wolviston failed to clear a free kick that was floated into their penalty area and Byrne fired the loose ball home from three yards, nothing less than the Atoms deserved.
