Wath Brow earned the first bragging rights of the season when they beat neighbours Kells 28-6 in the National Conference Premier Division.
It moved the Hornets up to second place in the table, although they team they displaced – West Hull – were without a fixture.
Kells, with home advantage were looking to make a fast, positive start but it took until the 17th minute to get their noses in front.
Harley Nelson went over for the try which Ross Gainford converted but by half-time Wath Brow had slipped into a 12-6 lead with tries from Cole Walker-Taylor and Ian Caddy, one converted by Sam Curwen who added a penalty.
Kells needed to get back into it quickly but it was the Hornets who scored nine minutes into the second-half when Walker-Taylor grabbed his second try, and again Curwen improved.
It was slipping away from Kells and was comprehensively in Wath Brow’s hands on the hour when Jake Moore scored a try, converted by Curwen.
The scoring was completed two minutes from the end when Greg Howland got in for the fifth Wath Brow try.

In a reduced programme the only other Cumbrian sides involved in National action featured in the Division Three derby in which Hensingham beat Seaton Rangers 36-26 after a remarkable turnaround.
Seaton were looking confident at half-time as they had established a 26-10 lead but they folded in the second-half and were unable to add a single point as Hensingham roared back to win the game.

Rangers had looked in control as they scored five first half tries through Lewis Mason, Mark Surtees, Billy Southward, Elliott Nixon and Brett Symes. John Chisnall converted two and Brandon Walker improved another.
Callum Morgan and Scott Egan had scored first-half tries for Hensingham with Jack Kellett converting one of them.

But they profited in the second-half from a dominant performance when there were tries for Callum Tunstall, Gavin Maudling, Kurt Maudling, Taylor Richardson and Egan. Kellett landed two more goals and there was one from Jon Carrick.
