Five star Lake District hotel opens new restaurant

A five star Lake District hotel has opened a new restaurant.

Mizumi, at the Lakes Hotel and Spa at the Bowness-on-Windermere, promises to bring Asian fusion cuisine to the Lake District.

Mizumi is Japanese for lakes, and will offer dishes are designed for sharing with friends or enjoyed on their own. Guests are invited to order three to four small plates or a combination of small and larger plates from the menu where the chef sends out the dishes as and when they are ready.

Previously, the hotel’s restaurant and pub were only open to guests.

Richard Berry, who bought the hotel in 2014 and carried out a £10 million refurbishment, has decided to open its doors to diners for a culinary experience to remember.

He said: “We had always limited our dining to guests but I wanted to share the success of the hotel with the wider community by having a different dining experience that can be enjoyed for the whole evening.”

Richard has developed an extensive Asian fusion menu with head chef Dewayne James, who has worked all over the world but settled in Burneside and has been at the hotel for eight years, and consultant chef Paul Webster from Windermere.

Paul trained with Marco Pierre White and has worked at some of the country’s top restaurants, from Miller Howe to the two star Pied a Terre. He was recently head chef at Gilpin Spice for six years and in December cooked at Obsession at Northcote Manor food festival with Hrishikesh Desai.

Richard added: “I have been lucky enough to travel the world and have eaten some incredible food. Mizumi brings to the Lakes a style of cooking that is quickly becoming very popular around the world.”
