Cumbria finally managed to play some cricket at Netherfield but two defeats against Cheshire put them out of contention in the National T20 competition.
Despite not playing any cricket after three abandoned games Cumbria could have qualified for finals day with two wins and the right run rate.
However due to their defeats and the results between Northumberland and Shropshire the County finished bottom of their group.
Both games, though, were decided only on the very last ball as Cheshire won them by four runs and then by six wickets.
In the first match Cumbria needed a six to tie but only managed two while in the second Cheshire needed two off the last ball and hit a four.
Both games, were arguably decided on the last over of each Cheshire innings. In the first game their 20th over went for 19 with 18 scored off the bat of Matt Carter (Nottinghamshire CCC) and in the second game their 20th over went for 18 runs (15 scored off the bat of Sam Perry (Lancashire 2nds & Academy, Durham UCCE).
Cumbria were also hindered in both games when a well-set batsman had to retire hurt – Gary Pratt on 30 and Matthew Sempill on 33.
Scores:
Cheshire 135/8 (20 overs) (Carter 63 from 39 balls, Fallows 4/10) Cumbria 131/5 (20 overs) (Dutton 59 from 45 balls)
Cumbria 144/4 (20 overs) (Stables 41no from 24 balls) Cheshire 147/4 (20 overs) (Perry 52no, Anderson 50).
Freddie Fallows, Ed Moulton and Ali Craig each made their County debuts for Cumbria.
