Stunning weather was the order of the day at Low Place which staged a five card HTA meeting and although entries were average across all the races but there were some exciting finishes.
Eleven senior hounds were slipped and when they showed on the finish it was Huntsman’s Quantum who had a slight lead and who held on to win the race.
This is the fourth time he has won at Low Place and the win takes him back up to second place in the Senior Championship table.
According to his owners he has been off for a few weeks with an injured wrist but he seems to be back on form for the Little family from Carlisle.
Kirkhead Rebel finished well in second place for Roy Laidler, with Ian Bell’s Howgill Lil finishing in third place.
Huntsman’s Rebel was back out but could only manage fifth place along while Miterdale Duchess was slightly off the pace and only managed to finish in sixth.

A small field of pups were slipped and it was Denise Bland’s Huntsman’s Sunshine (son of Huntsman’s Major who won the Veterans race) that took the honours, quite fitting on such a glorious day.
Close behind in second place was Croft Lass who finished well for Carol and Stanley Jackson while James McClelland’s hound Glamorous Ava finished in third just a yard behind the other two hounds.
There were slightly more runners in the Open Non-Winners race with 15 slipped and when they came back into view anyone of six hounds could have won the race.
However it was Willie and Daphne Mark’s hound Sportsman who just got up to win from local hound Miterdale Dainty with Chapel Stile finishing well in third for Ian Fleet. Sportsman is another son of Huntsman’s Major.

The Open Restricted race was won by Geoff and Barbara Jones’s Lily who came clear of all the other hounds by a couple of minutes before Oakbank Izzy came in to view to finish second. Lily must have been on fire as she beat the puppy race time by a good half a minute.
The last race of the day was the veteran race and it was Denise Bland’s hound Huntsman’s Major who finished well ahead of the second place hound Hawkswood who was also well clear of the third hound Forlorn Spring.
The second place for Hawkswood takes him to the top of the Veteran Points Table ahead of Huntsman’s Major by two points.
There may have been fewer hounds but the racing was still exciting and money raised from trails at Low Place goes towards supporting the local school and other good causes in the local area.
