Three cup finals, held within the week, completed all competitions for the Cumberland County League.

All three games were held at the Falcon Complex starting with the Divisional Cup on Tuesday evening, Ken Glover Trophy on Thursday and the Whitehaven Cup on Saturday afternoon.

All the games were well attended by groups of very vocal supporters.

The Divisional Cup Competition structure was amended this season to enable a mix of clubs from the Premier Division and Division 1, with Aspatria and Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves eventually progressing to the final.

Celtic took the lead in the 25th minute, courtesy of an own goal and Ben McCarron doubled their lead in the second period.

Despite some strong Aspatria pressure Celtic held on to take the honours.

The Ken Glover Trophy was contested between Wigton Harriers and Gosforth.  In a tight three way finish to the Premier Division title involving Wigton, Maryport Athletic and Gosforth, all three teams finishing with the same points, goal difference handing the title to Wigton.

This final was no exception and in a tight, sometimes feisty game, a goal from Ryan Studholme decided the outcome in Wigton’s favour.

Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves returned to the Falcon Complex on Saturday to compete for the Whitehaven Cup, with Carlisle City Development providing the opposition on this occasion.

Celtic eventually lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory after both teams had settled into the game producing some good approach work.

It was Ben McCarron who managed to pierce the City defence in the 32nd minute to give Celtic a 1-0 lead at the break and City went further behind three minutes into the second period, with Leo Brennan doubling Celtic’s advantage.

Despite some pressure from the Carlisle team, they were unable to register a response, and their cause was not helped when they had a player dismissed with ten minutes of the game remaining.
