Bryan Thompson has earned himself a place in the record books of the revived West Cumbria Midweek League.
The Workington bowler became the first man to take a hat-trick of wickets in a game since the League was revived this season.
But Thompson’s heroics with the ball couldn’t prevent Workington from slipping to defeat by 51 runs at the hands of Cockermouth.
He clean-bowled his first two victims and then claimed the hat-trick with a little bit of assistance from the batsman who hit his own wicket.
However Matty Holliday (31 ret), Mike Johnson (30) and Connor Steadman (27no) had laid solid foundations earlier in the innings and Cockermouth reached 139-7 in their 20 overs.
Opener Nathan Canfield (20), the man who was instrumental in starting-up the Midweek League again, stood firm for Workington but only two other players Harry Ditchburn (16) and Robson Scott (13) reached double figures. There were also 12 extras as they were dismissed for 88 in 14.2 overs.
Jonty Fish (2-9), Kevin Marr (2-5) and Johnson (2-11) were the leading bowlers for Cockermouth.
