Workington Comets made it two from two as they won 48-38 at Berwick last night in their second National Development League meeting.

They will be strong favourites to make it three in a row when they stage the return with the Bullets at Northside later today (3pm).

With number one Connor Bailey riding for Redcar last night the Comets had to use a guest rider in the experienced Lee Complin and he top-scored with 12 points and a bonus.

Complin won his first two outings and then had three seconds as the Comets were never headed and gradually pulled away to a comfortable victory.

They had opened the season last Saturday at Northside by beating Edinburgh Monarchs Academy and although there will be tougher tests than these two opponents the Comets have given notice they will be among the front runners in the NDL title race.

Although Berwick actually had more heat winners – eight to the Comets seven – Workington only had three races where a team member failed to score a point, and that was a major factor.

Ace Pijper scored nine and a bonus point with Sam McGurk collecting nine points. Skipper Luke Crang scored six and reserve Elliot Kelly picked-up six and a bonus.

Both Harry McGurk and reserve Kelsey Dugard scored three and a bonus.

Australian Bailey will be back in the side at Northside this afternoon after scoring three points last when Redcar were soundly beaten at home by Poole Pirates. Ex-Comet Charles Wright top-scored with 13.
