Three Workington Comets riders receiving treatment for injuries

Workington Comets injured trio from the left: Kelsey Dugard, Luke Crang and Luke Harrison.

Workington currently have three riders receiving treatment for recent injuries which hopefully should see them back in contention for the next Comets meeting.

That isn’t until Saturday, June 3 when Mildenhall Fen Tigers are due to race at Northside (3pm).

Luke Harrison, Kelsey Dugard and skipper Luke Crang have all been affected by recent knocks and injuries.

Crang suffered a heavy crash a Berwick on Saturday, hitting the home straight fence to avoid fellow teammate Elliot Kelly. His reactions certainly prevented a worse situation.

Suffering from a torn quad muscle, the skipper was at Northside on Sunday cheering on the boys for their back to back 50-40 home win over the Berwick Bullets. He is receiving physiotherapy to help aid his recovery and is hoping to be back to face Mildenhall.

Dugard was on the receiving end of high speed crash at Northside on Sunday. Whilst leading heat two his bike lifted uncontrollably hitting the air fence at high speed, followed by Kelly – who walked away only bumped and bruised and carried on the match scoring an exceptional 10+2.

Remarkably Dugard also walked away but was withdrawn from the meeting with injuries to his right arm. After visiting his home-town hospital in Brighton, his injuries are considered not as bad as first feared and is only suffering from nerve damage.

Like Crang, he will be receiving physiotherapy and is aiming to be back in a couple of weeks.

There was a suprise welcome back to the Comets side on Sunday for young reserve,  Harrison who had suffered two broken vertebrae and a broken shoulder back in April after a horrific crash while practicing at his hometown track, Scunthorpe.

But since then he has been keeping fit and healthy, which no doubt has helped him heal those serious injuries earlier than first expected.

However, after four rides on Sunday his dad, Andy, admitted it may have been a step too far and too quick for the youngster.

Harrison senior said: “I think he is fit to ride, but not to race.”

Unfortunately it has meant he will not be fit to ride the Under-21 qualifier at Northside on Sunday with his focus on being fully fit as soon as possible and back in the Comets side.
