Alfie McCalmont is due to return to Leeds United soon but he intends to enjoy his final outing in a Carlisle United shirt.
The 23-year-old midfielder will be part of the United squad heading to the League Two play-off final and says he intends to soak up the Wembley atmosphere and enjoy every minute of it.
United take on Stockport County in Sunday’s final after their nail-biting extra-time win over Bradford City.
McCalmont came through the academy set-up at Leeds and in the January transfer window was sent out on loan to Cumbria to try and find some regular game time with Carlisle.
After a slow start to his stay with the Blues he has established himself as a regular in the starting line-up and helped them reach the play-off final.
He told Carlisle’s official website: “Games like play-off finals can be very important in a player’s career and I am really excited to be part of a game of such importance.
“You get a little bit nervous, that happens before every game, but it’s more excitement than anything else.
“These games are massive, and in your career they don’t come around often, but going to play at Wembley I’m not even sure I’ll be nervous, I’m going there to soak up the atmosphere and to enjoy every minute of it. I’m sure all the other lads will as well.”
Thirsk-born McCalmont joined the youth system at Elland Road in 2018 and although he hasn’t made a first team appearance he has had decent League experience while on loan at Oldham (32 games), Morecambe (26) and Carlisle (13).
