Almost 200 people have signed a petition to save peacocks which roam a West Cumbrian town.
Around 20 peacocks are thought to roam the streets of Maryport – and have been doing so for around five years, in groups of three or four.
However, there have been complaints on social media about their behaviour and people are concerned about the damage they have been causing to vehicles and the noise they make.
Dawn Charlton believes those who have complaints are trying to get the birds removed.
So Dawn, of Ewanrigg Road, started the petition. She said: “They bring a lot of joy to people – especially the pensioners, who are really upset that people want them to be removed.
“Yes, they jump on cars but so do cats. They are part of Maryport and should be left alone.”
However, others have called them a menace – and some were even spotted running down John Street towards the Butchers Arms in the town centre.
