Workington Reds defender Sam Smith has re-signed for the 2023/24 season.
A consistent performer the 28-year-old has been part of the club set-up for 11 years after coming through the youth system.
He was appointed vice captain on Danny Grainger’s return as manager last season and has led the side whenever Conor Tinnion has been missing.
And he will take on a senior role in the squad in 2022/23 as returning boss Grainger aims to lead the Borough Park club to success.
Grainger said: “Sam is a massive part of the squad on and off the field. He has high standards and is committed to the club moving forward on and off the pitch.”
Smith, who was player of the year in the 2021/22 season under previous manager Chris Willcock said: “I’m really excited to have signed back on again.
“I can’t wait to have another big year pushing forward to where we want to be after a successful one for the club last year.
“I think with the squad we’ve got together to can give the fans something to cheer about again.”
